Every morning we stuck to the pool for coffee. Our hotel was near Bophut Beach and we walked a winding road with a bull and tons of stray dogs to Fisherman's Village where we had our pick of any number of beach restaurants or food stalls. It was low season and hardly anybody else was around. Our favorite place had amazing Chinese kale and basil fried rice. We took songthaew trucks to get to farther beaches like Chaweng where we had crab rangoon and Lamai where we had green curry while sitting in the sand. It was all so good. So, so good.

Thailand
In February, during the height of the Polar Vortex in Chicago, high above the freezing river in a hotel for the night...Brian gave me one of his famous collage cards for my birthday. This collage had a ton of pictures of a sunny island and it meant that he had booked a trip to Thailand. I was totally shocked and insanely happy and four months later we were in Koh Samui wandering Chaweng Beach and eating Green Curry before following a slow moving truck blaring WE WILL ROCK YOU with two men hitting each other in the flat bed to a stadium to watch Thai Boxing. How funny.
